Crown of Sunlight, Sky so Blue

Crown of Sunlight, Sky so Blue

By fourth-year Zoey Stephens

the sky was so blue this january

and who am I to say that this is the year the world ends?

this is the way it ends, under a bright blue sky.

but who am I

but violet fire, boundless in a

bright

 blue

sky?

and who am I

but a body bound by some made-up human language

walking in a man-made world on a path to nowhere?

and if I can’t meet my end in a pipe dream fantasy,

who's to say I end at all?

no, I’ll rid myself of all my flowery language

and all my social graces

and the need to

                    be a body.

I’ll be bodiless, lifted crown,

no feet against the ground,

they are raised to the bright blue sky.

I’ll speak in sky blues and orange sweaters

sighs and moans and velveteen dreams

sunlit skin and open palms

and I’ll be

bodiless

floating in a bright blue sky.
